Allow our skilled therapists to ease your pain while relaxing your mind and body

We may begin with a comprehensive history and postural evaluation to determine the best path for your treatment!

Your therapy goals will determine

the path of your individualized treatment plan.

Chaney’s Natural Health & Wellness offers both stress management techniques and pain management protocols.  Your therapeutic goals will determine which path is taken.

If you are looking for stress-reduction, massage therapy is probably the best treatment for you.  Massage therapy is more generalized and includes a upper-body or full-body option. Massage therapy is best performed if your clothing is removed.  You can remove your clothing in privacy and you will be covered throughout the treatment.

If you are plagued with pain and are looking to get some relief, myofascial therapy may be your answer.  Myofascial trigger point therapy is much more clinical than massage therapy and encompasses the belief of “addressing the source of the problem” rather than just treating symptoms. Myofascial generally does not require your clothing to be removed, however it is best to come for therapy dressed in comfortable clothing that allows for full movement.  The therapist may ask you to loosen or change into something else so that specific tissues can be assessed for treatment (i.e. cotton shorts).

Goals of Therapy:

· Pain Management

· Stress Reduction

· More restorative Sleep

· Increase Energy Levels

· Improve Circulation

· Increase Oxygen Levels

* NEW PATIENT INTAKE FORM

* PHYSICIAN’S REFERRAL (only needed if insurance is being billed or you would like to submit for insurance reimbursement)

HOURS OF OPERATION: By appointment or by chance. Please call ahead for an appointment or classes.                                                    (724)328.2834

HOW MANY VISITS WILL I NEED?: Typically, four-six sessions are recommended for those suffering from a pain complaint.  Especially with myofascial therapy, treatment is approached as a treatment plan with several sessions comprising a complete treatment.  If you are looking for on-going stress reduction or tension relief, once every two to four weeks is recommended for most.

What to expect during a Myofascial Therapy Treatment

The treatment begins with a comprehensive patient history. Your pain pattern will be precisely documented, your range of motion will be assessed and your muscles will be palpated for the presence of trigger points. When a trigger point is located, a slow sustained pressure may be applied until the trigger point releases.

Initially, the trigger point may be very tender, but gradually this sensitivity will decrease and the pain will fade away as the muscle begins to relax. The pain experienced will decrease and a stretch may be performed on this muscle. This process may decrease pain and restore normal functioning.

Following a treatment you will be given a home care program tailored to your needs. Goals will be discussed and established during your first treatment and reevaluated as treatment progresses. To experience longer lasting results, the client must commit to an home care program that not only retrains but conditions muscles affected.

This home care program, along with management of systemic and mechanical factors that perpetuate trigger points, is an integral part of your wellness. Suggestions for improving ergonomics and altering activities of daily living serve to enhance your ability to achieve an active, healthy lifestyle.

Response to treatment varies. Some clients experience superficial soreness following therapy, similar to that of post-exercise soreness. Warm baths, showers, stretching and rest are helpful in reducing soreness. You may experience some fatigue as your body re-adjusts to the changes made.  Some clients may experience an increase in energy.

Minimizing stress, pacing your activities and listening to your body are very important in healing. Your individual rate of improvement depends upon your general health, weight, level of fitness, underlying physical conditions and compliance to the treatment program.

What you can do to help yourself

Obtaining appropriate treatment for your condition is essential. Knowledge of myofascial pain and trigger points by the medical community varies. You are encouraged to educate yourself and share this information with your healthcare providers.

Eliminating perpetuating factors such as anemia, hypothyroidism, hypoglycemia and mechanical issues greatly enhances your outcome potential.  Medications to reduce pain or restore sleep may be helpful to break the
Pain-Spasm-Pain Cycle initially.
