Stretch Programs: Neck & Shoulders

· Rotate head to left side as far as possible

· Repeat on the right side

Note: Do not tilt head

 

· Rotate head to left side

· Tilt head backwards

· Repeat on the right side

· Rotate head to left side

· Lower chin dropping your nose towards your shoulder

· Repeat on the right side

These stretches should be felt in the sides, front and back of the neck and down into the shoulders.

· Secure right hand by holding onto seat of chair

· Place left fingertips on right temple

· Tilt head to left side dropping ear towards shoulder

· Repeat on the right side

Note: Do not tilt head

· Tilt chin upwards towards ceiling

· Drop left ear towards shoulder

· Repeat on the right side

· Tilt chin downwards towards floor

· Drop left ear towards shoulder

· Repeat on the right side

This stretch should be felt in the sides, front and back of the neck and shoulders.
Note: Stretches should be performed in a well supported, seated position

· Grasp right wrist with left hand

· Pull arm down and across the back

· Tilt head to left dropping ear towards shoulder

· Repeat on the right side 

Variation: Rotate head in a variety of angles as you continue to laterally tilt your head

This stretch should be felt in the sides, front and back of the neck and shoulders.

· Raise eyebrows

· Open jaw as wide as possible

· Move jaw to both left and right sides

This stretch should be felt throughout jaw musculature.

· Lock fingers behind head

· Tuck chin to chest and begin to roll forward slowly rounding out neck and upper back

· Bring elbows together to enhance stretch

This stretch should be felt throughout neck, upper back and between shoulder blades.

 

· Close eyes in a relaxed position

· Raise eyebrows as high as possible

· Close eyes as tight as possible
